Wisconsin Dells Camping has just about everything, whether you’re looking for wooded rustic or resort luxury the Dells has a great camping location for your tent, camper, or RV. We have our favorites, but that changes along with the ages of our children over the years. Many of the Dells campgrounds have a combination of these features based on the location. The one thing you can count on is that the Dells has a camping experience for every camp style at every stage of your camping life.

Our personal preferences typically include getting out away from light and noise influence, a larger wooded private site, clean facilities, and a nice pool for the children.

Arrowhead Resort Campground

Arrowhead offers family oriented Wisconsin Dells camping and definitely one of the better places you can stay in the Dells. A majority of the sites are wooded, or you can get a lot of sunshine in the new section of the camp. It has a lot of amenities featuring a store and lodge, two swimming pools including a heated outdoor pool, shuffleboard courts, mini golf, horseshoes, an outdoor theatre, game room, playground, and volleyball court. It is also near many of the major attractions so you are not too far away from everything.

If you don’t want to bring your own camper, RV, or tent, Arrowhead offers four different types of cabins to choose from. The new deluxe cabins sleep up to eight, include full linens, appliances, kitchenware, and bathroom, and shower facilities. The other cabins do not include everything so be sure to bring your own sleeping bag or linens, towels, etc.

If you can get in, try to book a campsite during one of the summer holiday weekends, they have so many activities going on it will amaze you. Also, seasonal sites are great if you camp often in a Wisconsin Dells camping location. They even offer a package deal with Mt. Olympus, so ask about that if you are thinking about the seasonal sites. Check out the website for more details. The season is open from April 15 to October 29.

Overall, this Wisconsin Dells camping area has very nice accommodations. The showers and bathrooms were very clean and the staff there was extremely helpful the whole weekend we were there. Holiday Shores Camp Resort

All these years we have been going to the Dells and we somehow managed to miss possibly the best Wisconsin Dells camping. We have stayed at the Chula Vista Resort several times and just have not gone further north on River Road. We have not stayed here, but I spent a couple of hours driving and walking the entire area this summer.

I’m not really sure where to start because they just absolutely seem to have it all. First of all they are right on the Wisconsin River. The river actually gets wider here and so a great place to swim and boat. They have a sand swimming beach, boat launch, boat docking, and boat rentals.

The campsites are mostly wooded and I thought very good sized. They have 16 river front sites that are just great. The river sites are surrounded by those huge tall pines, are quite large for area, and you get your own terrace type area between your camper and the river. I would suspect reservations are needed for those sites.

In addition they have a nice newer pool area and the bath facilities were nice and clean. They also have a basketball court, volleyball area, playground, big game room, a very large picnic pavilion, camp store, and restaurant. They also have a nice big deck area and tables overlooking the river. Looked like a great place to have a kiddie cocktail or two.

If you don’t have a camper they rent guest houses, cottages, and park model trailers. You can bet it will be the next Wisconsin Dells camping area we stay at in the Dells area. The campground is family owned and they have activities scheduled for every weekend in the summer season.

Sherwood Forest Camping & RV Park

We stayed at the Sherwood Forest Camping & RV Park this past Memorial Day weekend. For being just a 3 block walk to downtown, we were really surprised with how primitive and “woodsy” some of the campsites were. The entire area is wooded and many of the sites are private state park size camp areas. We stayed on Little John’s Trial on a really nice big secluded site. It’s a little further walk to the washroom’s but well worth it.

The campground has been a mainstay in the dells for years, but the still keep everything maintained like new. It had been some time since our last visit and we were really pleased with our stay. The staff was extremely friendly and security personnel actually enforced quiet hours, which is nice if you have small children. The park has a very nice heated outdoor pool, kiddie pool, large game room, and camp store.

The best part about this Wisconsin Dells camping area is the location. It is definitely worth it to leave your car at the campground and walk downtown; it’s just a few blocks away. Check out the website for rates and a list of activities including Wa Zha Wha Days in September.

Stand Rock Campground

The Stand Rock Campground is one of our all-time favorite Wisconsin Dells camping locations. The campground is so well maintained, it almost gives it more of a resort feel than it a does a campground feel.

Also, they have brand new restroom facilities that are second to none. The campsites are very large as is the outdoor heated pool. The campground has over 200 sites and is extremely peaceful and very quiet, perfect for a family vacation.

The bar and grill has delicious food and they have free coffee every morning. Private lake fishing is available, and there are plenty of scenic trails to venture through. This place literally has everything you want in a campground and was recently recognized by the Best Holiday Trav-L-Park as one of the top 4% of parks across America. We have camped or visited the park on several occasions. It is again one of our favorites with a perfect location close the Dells, but secluded for the perfect camp experience. Again plan early and often by arranging your reservation well in advance of your stay.
